Healthy Pumpkin Pie Apple Smoothie

This smoothie is perfect for the Fall season and uses a balance of healthy ingredients to start your day right.

The transition from summer to fall is one of my favorite times of the year. I’ve enjoyed all of the berries and tomatoes I can eat and am excited to make everything apple, spice and pumpkin.

With fresh apples from the orchard, homemade pumpkin pie spice seasoning and pure pumpkin, you can make a simple smoothie that is sure to delight the taste buds! Not only will you find it tasty, but it will also nurture your health.

This smoothie recipe is gluten free, dairy free and nut free. You can also make it vegan/vegetarian, if you use a plant based protein powder.

What You’ll Need:

  • pure pumpkin
  • apple
  • non-dairy milk
  • pumpkin pie spice
  • ground flax meal
  • maple syrup
  • vanilla protein powder
  • yogurt (optional)

Making the Recipe:

I love smoothies in the morning because I can pack them full of nutritious ingredients and they are very simple to make. I find a smoothie made with real foods and a balance of fruits/veggies, protein and healthy fats helps to give me energy and balance blood sugars.

You start by dicing up the apple.

Next, you’ll put some crushed ice, the apples and the rest of the ingredients in a high speed blender or Nutri Bullet.

Blend everything until smooth, pour it into a cup and enjoy! 5 minutes of work for something so tasty. What’s not to love?

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup crushed ice
  • 1/2 cup pure pumpkin
  • 1 apple, diced
  • 1 Tbsp. ground flax meal
  • 1 cup oat milk (or other non-dairy milk)
  • 1/2 cup full fat yogurt (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tsp. maple syrup
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder

Instructions

  1. Put all ingredients in a high-speed blender or Nutri Bullet and blend until smooth.

Notes

Use plant based protein powder and non-dairy yogurt to make this recipe vegan/vegetarian.

Replace the protein powder with 2 Tbsp. of pecans or walnuts for protein without the powder.

Use full fat coconut milk in place of the yogurt.

Substitute chia or hemp seeds for the flax meal, if preferred.  All are great sources of Omega-3 fatty acids.
