Hummus is great as a healthy appetizer or snack for the whole family. Add your favorite ingredients to this basic hummus it to make it your own.

I’ve recently gotten into making my own hummus. I never knew it was so simple! And, I love that I’m making it with real food ingredients that are healthy for me.

This recipe is just the basics. Once you have that down, you can make all kinds of varieties of hummus. You can add olives, roasted red peppers or caramelized onions to it to make different varieties. Just blend them in after you’ve made the basic hummus.

What You’ll Need:

Making the Recipe:

You will start by draining and rinsing the garbanzo beans. Once that is done, put them on a large food processor and add the other ingredients.

Blend in the food processor for about 1 minute. If you would like the hummus a bit creamier, add 1 Tbsp. of cold water at a time, until it reaches the consistency you like.

Next, scoop out the hummus into a bowl or on a plate if you are eating it right away. Drizzle it with some olive oil and sprinkle with a little extra cumin before serving, if you like.

This is a plain hummus recipe. It is really easy to add additional ingredients you love to it. Just add them to the food processor once the basic recipe is made. Process the mixture until the added ingredients are blended.
