Grilled Chicken Rubs

rubs in bowls on white plate and cutting board.

These homemade gluten free chicken rubs make dinner time extra easy.

When you’ve worked a full day and the family is hungry for dinner, keeping things simple is key! I love rubs and marinades for this very reason. If you love any of these rubs, make a bigger batch and keep them on hand for even quicker meal prep.

Not only are these rubs delicious on chicken, but they can also be used on other dishes. The Mediterranean rub is great on roasted or grilled vegetables and salmon. The Savory rub is also good on pork.

I will also use the chicken rub on a whole chicken and rub it under the skin and on the skin of the chicken. You can cook the whole chicken on the grill or in your slow cooker with a little broth.

The possibilities are endless!

These homemade gluten free chicken rubs make dinner time extra easy.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken Rub:

  • 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp. sea salt
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 2 tsp. dried oregano
  • 2 tsp. dried thyme
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder

For the Mediterranean Rub:

  • 1/2 tsp. coarse sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp. dried basil
  • 1/4 tsp. dried parsley
  • 1/4 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. dried thyme
  • 1/8 tsp. dried rosemary
  • 1/8 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg

For the Savory Rub:

  • 1 Tbsp. garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp. onion powder
  • 1 Tbsp. rosemary
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ground sage
  • 1 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • 1  1/2 tsp. sea salt
  • 1 tsp. ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Mix all of the ingredients together in a small bowl.
  2. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for future use.

Notes

  • I usually grind my dried rosemary in a mortar and pestle to reduce the size of it in these herb mixes.
  • Use the Mediterranean rub on salmon or on roasted or grilled vegetables with some oil. I usually add a little extra sea salt to the vegetables too.
  • The Savory rub is also great on pork.
  • Use the Chicken rub on breasts, thighs or a whole chicken. You can cook the whole chicken on the grill or in a slow cooker with a cup of broth for 3-4 hours on high.
